The Team
We have a small friendly team of instructors so you may variously come across Cliff, Katie, Alice, Corrinne, Emily, Herman, Johnny, Matthew, Phyllida, Richard, Vlad (or any combination thereof!) leading your session. Michelle and Suzi hang out behind the scenes providing great customer service!
All of our instructors have heaps and heaps of experience at instructing archery and have a range of qualifications, including archery leaders courses, Archery GB Level 1, Level 2, first aid training and specialist courses in coaching the disabled. We all have enhanced CRB certificates.
Cliff
What first bought you into archery? My young child was really into it so I took him along to our local club and never looked back.
What would be your desert island disc? Surfs Up by the Beach Boys. The most beautiful song ever recorded.
Where are you from? Sunny Lowestoft in Suffolk. The most easterly point in Great Britain.
What’s your best memory from coaching archery? Coaching a blind archer at a corporate event and her winning the competition.
What do you get up to when you’re not working or playing bows and arrows? Building and painting miniatures for tabletop war gaming.
What are we expecting for your signature dish if we all come round your house? Vegan chilli. Yum.
Katie
Katie joined 2020 Archery in January 2013 working mainly with the Junior Club which she thoroughly enjoys. She is keen to see the progression and development of all the young archers we have coming through. Katie achieved her Archery GB Level 1 coaching qualification in 2014 and hopes to progress through the other levels.
She has worked with children for the last 15 years and has extensive experience of working with children with SEN, particularly ASD. She is passionate about the value of education in all its guises.
Corrinne
How long have you worked at 2020 Archery? I joined the club as a member in 2015, and became an instructor in 2022. I mainly host our Beginner Course on a Saturday but help out wherever I’m needed.
What is your favorite type of bow? I shot traditional bows for years, and made the switch to modern barebow a couple of years ago. Back in my traditional archery days, I once bought a flatbow for the sole reason that it was painted neon orange. I still consider this one of my wiser purchases.
What's your best memory from working for 2020 Archery? I really like teaching beginners. I get to meet such an interesting range of people, and see them develop their skills during the 5-week course. Just by joining the course, you're already an archer in spirit: I see my role as helping to bring out that inner archer!
Richard
When did you join 2020 Archery? I joined 2020 Archery in 2018 as a club member and became an instructor in 2022. Although technically I’m ‘semi-retired’, I’m kept fairly busy hosting Beginners Courses, ‘Have a Go’ sessions, corporate events, hen/stag parties and Archery Tag events, so no time for too much retirement!
What is your favorite type of bow? I shoot Barebow and like the simplicity of the bow (others have said it’s because I’m Northern and too tight to spend money to add anymore bells and whistles!). I also proudly own a longbow which I made myself.
What do you get up to when you're not working or playing with bows and arrows? I have no other sporting hobbies, but can often be found with Cliff dissecting the day’s archery sessions at a local hostelry. Come and join us - we’re very friendly and you’ll be very welcome. I have travelled a bit when I was younger. I’ve spent a Christmas on the side of a mountain in the Himalayas; a week rafting the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon; and completed a bungy jump from a height of 134m. My feet are now firmly on the ground!
Matthew
How long have you worked at 2020 Archery? I joined 2020 Archery as a part-time instructor in 2019, deciding on a change in career from retail.
Where are you from? I was born in London but raised in sunny Cyprus for 18 years.
How did you start archery? One of my earliest jobs was working at an activity centre which had an archery range, and there the love for archery began. I have recently purchased my own bow and am currently working on my groupings at 20 yards.
What do you get up to when you're not working or playing with bows and arrows? My main job is as a kickboxing instructor, based out of Central London. I have been trained in five different styles of Martial Arts and have a black belt in two of those styles. In my spare time, my other interests include reading fantasy novels, listening to music, reading and collecting Marvel comic books, and reading graphic novels.
