We were recently put in touch with a youth club down in Bermondsey by one of our local supporters up in Islington. After a fair bit of negotiation and discussion Aisha, Austin and Heidi put on three extremely successful sessions at the end of February. We borrowed our own gear from T47 (2 journeys in Heidi’s very battered old Ford Fiesta!) and only discovered when we got there that the lift isn’t suitable for archery equipment. Thankfully we did have a fab team of guys (big thanks to Will Pook) who helped us to lug it up the 4 flights of stairs. Really good sessions – arranging some more for the Summer.

We’re also getting on with some sessions we’ve organised with the Camden Society – brilliantly funded by the Play Sport scheme. We’re doing a 1 hour session every Monday morning down at T47 (London Bridge). What a fab way to start the week!

We shot a FITA 25 as our February handicap round on Sunday Feb 28th (handicap shoot is always the last Sunday in the month at 2.30pm). There was quite a lot of furniture moving shenanigans and we were a bit squashed up – but well we’re all friends.

Chris’s Report:

After 15 minutes practice because some archers had not taken the time to practice the round since it was announced and did not have sight marks, the round started. Despite some dubious scoring from Ron and Matt (at one point they were 3 arrows ahead of everyone else) the round was completed in a timely fashion.

Everyone enjoyed the shoot and some suggested that the 25m distance should be shot on a more regular basis.

The next handicapped round will be on the 28th March. A Worcester round has been requested.

Handicapped shoot results : Sam (1st) 1450 (495 shot) Joint second : Mark L 1430 (491 shot) and Giles 1430 (415 shot)

Chris shot a personal best of 522 but came in with a handicapped score of 1424 therefore missing out on the fabulous prize (3 free sessions). We had 8 entrants this time so space for some more of you to join in!

Highly successful last year we’re carrying on with a good thing and holding two special ‘Valentine’s Archery’ events on Sat 13th Feb (singles) and Sunday 14th February (couples).

Singles Valentine’s Archery – Saturday 13th Feb 4pm, £30 per person. We’ll be matching even numbers of single ‘Maid Marians’ to single ‘Robins’ for a fun Valentine’s have a go at archery introductory session. We’ll get you started with all the basics and give you an hour or so to practice. The session will end with us holding a mini-competition with some excellent prizes to be won for the most successful Marian and the most successful Robin (successful at shooting we mean). To make sure that the socialising continues we’ll take everyone along to The Drapers Arms afterwards and buy you a drink!

Couples Valentine’s Archery - Sunday 14th February 12 noon, £30 per person. Similar idea to the singles event above but this will be a session specially for couples. The only differences will be that this will be a smaller group than the singles and as we’re starting at 12 (and you know each other!) we’ll be skipping The Drapers – although we’ll be very happy to point you in the right direction (and they do a lovely Sunday lunch)! Can also be bought as a voucher (in case you’re struggling with the present).
